Honestly, I'm surprised and should be proud of how far I've gone into, especially when it comes to improving my artwork. I went from making characters looking flat to adding some of the details, lighting, and shading, while also correcting and adjusting how the characters look to give them a more life-like appearance, the best I can put it that way. My favorite part to do while doing my artwork is adding detail to the characters such as giving them realistic hair/fur, having their clothes have a cotton or leather look depending on what they're wearing, and to match up the environment they're in, I make sure to add the level of dirt and grime onto them. The wet part comes later, as in a wet environment. Here are some my examples to show how much I have improved with these characters. And as you can tell, I started doing what you usually see in other peoples' artwork. It did work out for a while, but it didn't sit well for me. Like I said, even with that much simple shading
